for the donuts
11/2 cup (180g) flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp apple pie spice
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup (123g) sour cream
1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup (62g) applesauce
1/4 cup (35g) shredded apple
1/2 cup (123g) milk
for the apple “moss” crumble
3 oz apple jello powder
1/2 cup (60g) flour
Melting chocolate wafers
your favorite thick caramel sauce
1/4 cup (57g) room temp butter
Directions
First, make your apple crumble. Preheat the oven to 35° degrees. In a mixing bowl, combine jello powder, flour and room temp butter with a fork until crumble forms. Spread on a parchment lined baking sheet, and bake for 7-8 minutes.
Allow to completely cool while we make the donuts. Once completely cooled, crumble the "moss".
To make the donuts, in a medium bowl whisk together all dry ingredients and set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all wet ingredients until combined Add dry ingredients to the wet and gently fold until combined.
Fill donut mold about 2/3 full and bake at 350 for approximately 16-18 minutes. Allow donuts to cool for 5 minutes then flip onto a cooling rack.
To assemble, melt your chocolate wafers. Lay out a sheet of parchment paper, and place 1/2 tbsp drops of chocolate. Lay the donut over the chocolate to seal the bottom hole. Once cooled, fill with about 1/2 tsp caramel and top with more melted chocolate. Add your "moss" and graveyard decorations.
Enjoy!
